MWDSI Doctoral Consortium
As the Student Liaison for the Midwest Decision Sciences Institute
(MWDSI) it is my pleasure to invite your participation in the MWDSI
2008 Doctoral Student Consortium and Workshop. The consortium will
take place on Thursday, April 17, 2008, from 10 AM until 2:45 PM, as
the kick-off for our MWDSI 2008 conference. The consortium and
workshop will be held in the historic and completely renovated Logan
House on the beautiful campus of Penn State Erie, The Behrend College.
The consortium will start with a strategic research workshop where you
will be able to develop a strategic research plan and agenda, under
the guidance of experienced and successful researchers. We will break
for a working lunch at noon, and afterwards recap the strategic
plans. In the last hour of the consortium, we will break up into
groups and have informal table-talks, discussions and networking. In
this interactive setting you will find answers to some of your most
pressing questions regarding the successful completion of your
doctoral program, career choices, and questions and concerns related
to research, teaching and service. Junior and senior faculty will be
there to provide you a realistic view of what the life of an academic
is like at a variety of institutions.
You will be joined by faculty members from universities throughout our
region and Midwest DSI Officers, which will provide an excellent
network opportunity. You will not only get to know faculty but also
your peers at other institutions. I therefore strongly encourage you
to attend.
The consortium and workshop will end at 2:45 PM. If you are
interested in joining us afterwards for the GE Locomotive Factory Tour
and Wine Tasting, a bus will pick us up from the Logan House at 3 PM.
Participation in the doctoral consortium and workshop is free of
charge, but is limited to 15 participants. If you are interested,
which I hope you are, I therefore encourage you to apply as soon as
possible. An application should consist of you current resume / CV,
as well as a separate document briefly describing, in one paragraph
each, your research interests, your teaching interests, and the type
of position you are looking for (e.g., academia or industry, research,
teaching or balanced school, geographical location etc.).Please send
these two documents to me via e-mail at tschoenh@emich.edu.
I hope that I have captured your interest, and that you are
considering applying for the 2008 MWDSI Doctoral Student Consortium
and Workshop. Also, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate
to contact me.
Sincerely,
Tobias Schoenherr
