STUDENT PAPER COMPETITION RULES
Please read all rules carefully:
Purpose
The goal of these submissions is to provide a forum for students to present work in progress and receive feedback from other members of the decision sciences community. Papers should describe original, unpublished work that demonstrates insight, creativity, and promise. Topics of interest are the same as for the main conference. The accepted papers will be published in a special section of the conference proceedings.
Application Instructions
- The paper should be double-spaced, in a 12 point font, and must not be more than 20 pages in length and should use an appropriate and consistent publication format.
- All participants in the research, such as the student’s faculty advisor or other students, must be cited.
- Papers submitted to the student paper competition must be the sole work of the student author to be considered for the student paper track and competition.
Criteria for Paper Evaluations
- Originality, innovation of content, and quality of conceptualization
- Master and PhD students (max. 6 months after graduation at time of abstract submission)
- Quality and clarity of writing
- Relevance or interest to DSI members
- The paper must not have been published in journals or at research conferences previously.
Instructions for Contributors
1. Paper, abstract, and student paper submissions are due by February 22, 2008. Notification of acceptance or rejection will be emailed by March 7, 2008. Accepted papers will be due in final form by March 21, 2008.
2. Submissions can be entered on-line once you register and login to this site. Title page must clearly note student paper.
3. All submissions must include the following:
a. A cover page with:
- Title of submission (Title changes will not be allowed at a later date);
- Names, affiliations, phone numbers, and e-mails of all authors
- Abstract of 250 words or less
Awards
Awards of $300 for first place, $200 for second place, and $100 for third place are given to outstanding student papers. Students who do not present their papers will not be eligible for awards. Presentation of the awards will be at the luncheon on Friday, April 18th.
Each student is responsible for his/her own travel and lodging arrangements. All student authors are expected to follow the normal process to register for the MDSI conference, although the registration fee for students is only $30.
Judges for the competition will be selected from leading researchers.
The winner and the other finalists will receive recognition at the awards luncheon to be held on Friday April 18, 2008.
To submit an entry to the Student Paper Competition, the manuscript must be uploaded to the conference website
Entries must be submitted on or before Feb 22, 2008. The finalists and winners will be notified at the Awards Luncheon on April 18, 2008.
